Reflection
in this section we will review what went right and what went wrong...
We started off with the event being a buyout in the school so we took the idea and tried to work with it but we couldn't find a plan that would make sense and was easy to execute. This main problem was with people being able to commit to a full day of riding.
Our first initiative after having a rough plan was to contact the workers at Heart and Stroke to let them know we were interested. They actually had more than one group come in and ride the big that day which was pretty cool, it was nice that we were the only ones there though. Otherwise it would have been crowded and awkward with people you don't really know. There was a group at the end but it was a small group.
We used these little heart that the Heart & Stroke Foundation sent to us and we walked around the school letting people know what it was all about. Each heart was one dollar and the people were to write the name of someone who they know has been effected by a heart condition. A lot of people put their grandparents which was scary because i thought less and less older people were having heart conditions
We posted little signs around the school like this showing people how easy it was so join! We also changed the minimum amount of money raised because $50 is a lot for a highschool student.
This is a scan of the master sheet, but it was used by us to officially record the people who were involved.
Overall, the event was a huge success we raised money and donated it to a great cause. I feel that if we had even more people we could have raised even more money and raised more awareness.
Problem #1 Communication - I (Geoff) felt left out of most group decisions, this was mainly caused by my lack of telling people what i have in my head when planning or helping run an event between people in charge which i need to work on. This problem could have been avoided by me talking to Tiana and Haleigh more and taking more initiative when we had stuff to do.. They never really included me i feel when we did the initial planning than when they started planning it they just told me to "go sell hearts", this was an essential part of the event but i feel my skills could have been used in a different way like helping make posters as I am good with computer design, I know i should have let them know this stuff but yet again I just did what i was told because I felt like at the time the hearts needed to be sold.
Problem #2 Lack of people being able to commit - THIS IS THE WORST PROBLEM OF ALL. When organizing the event days before we had numerous people bail on us and say "I lost my forms" or "I can't I'm busy with school". The trick to this is getting people who are passionate and believe in the cause. Also, to get people to people to lock in their decision like a week before the event. This problem was terrible, we had to get people in late and when they got everything in it was pretty last minute which could have been avoided by more organization.
Problem #3 Inclusiveness - When running the event i feel like i was running an event for grade twelves. I realized after that i should have gotten the younger grades involved because they will be the ones running it in the coming years.
